SASSI DI MATERA – INDEPENDENT BUILDING

Even the actor Richard Gere had the opportunity to appreciate its rooms when he stayed there during the filming of the movie 'King David'. Its imposing beauty is immediately visible from Via Bruno Buozzi, one of the very few streets in the Sassi di Matera where cars are allowed access, surrounded by buildings of the most varied architectural forms and by the rare and authentic variety of landscapes characteristic of the city of the Sassi. The building is arranged on four levels, three of which have independent entrances, and enjoys the presence of two balconies and two terraces with wonderful views over the city. The ground floor is connected to Via Buozzi by the entrance. Here we find the large living area, now used as a bed and breakfast, with a small kitchen, a fireplace and a bathroom, as well as a beautiful room with arched ceilings now housing a large library. The first floor is also connected by an internal staircase to the ground floor. Here we find a large living room with balcony, the kitchen and the second bathroom. Access to the rooms on the first floor is also provided independently by an entrance from vico Confalone, reached by an external stone staircase, under which is a convenient storage room. On the second floor we find the two bedrooms with a bathroom and two terraces, each with a splendid view of the city. The basement floor has a separate entrance and includes about 80 square metres of sub-concessioned rooms, currently used as storage space but with definite development potential in the event of a renovation. It would be aimed at turning it into a reception facility or a service area for the house (with a small indoor swimming pool, for example). To the right and left of this characteristic building on Via Buozzi, the steps invite you to take short detours to discover suggestive corners, such as the traditional 'vicinati', architectural and social cores of the ancient Sassi districts, and ancient prime elements of community life. A kind of 'horizontal' condominium composed of a common open-air courtyard where numerous houses once opened their gates. The main points of interest in the historical centre, numerous cafes, bakeries, and commercial services are in the immediate vicinity. Very close and convenient to reach is the residents' car park. The heating of this residence is provided by a heating boiler positioned in the utility room on the first floor (where the kitchen is located) and serves the entire house through fan coils positioned in each room. The roof and facade were renovated in the first years of acquisition by the current owner and are still carefully maintained today. The excellent state of preservation can easily be seen from the shots taken in October of this year.
